ARKLink
Collection Development Task Force
Report of Task Force Meeting, February 22,
2002, Ottenheimer Library, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
The creation of a list of core resources, in any format, held or desired by all ARKLink Institutions, especially by its smaller members was accepted by the Task Force to be its current and future project.
Such a resource would benefit
all ARKLink members by:
1) Providing a collection development tool for the smaller two and four year
institutions supporting their acquisition and weeding processes.
2) Identifying the basic resources necessary for any general studies curriculum
regardless of the size of the institution.
3) Providing information on library resources available to students attending 2
year colleges before transferring to 4 year programs.
The first steps toward completing this project will be the gathering of
information to:
1) Create inventories of programs currently offered by two year institutions.
2) Current subscriptions held by 2 or 4 year institutions: print journals &
electronic databases
3) To compile a bibliography of current collection development resources,
especially published bibliographies and/or core collections.
To accomplish these first goals
the following tasks were organized:
1) Currently offered programs at 2 year college programs will be investigated by
Wendy Davis, Virginia Perschbacher and Jerrie Townsend.
2) Spreadsheets of print subscriptions and electronic resources will be prepared
by Donna Daniels and her graduate assistant using title lists submitted by
ARKLink member institutions.
3) Jeff Bailey, Maureen James-Barnes, Bob Yehl, and Judy Ganson will identify
currently available resources and compile a bibliography of collection
development tools for general education programs.
