The meeting was called to order at 4:15 p.m. by Co-Chair Janet Parsch.

Juana Young reported on the status of the Arkansas Digital Library.

PROPOSAL: It was offered by Senator Jody Mahony as Senate Concurrent
Resolution 13: "Requesting the Senate and House Interim Committees on
Education to hold hearings to determine the a mount of work done to
date regarding the digital library concept and to study and review
the potential for such a system in our state of Arkansas... The
committees are further requested to issue a report to the Legislative
Council, including any recommendations for the 2001 Legislative
Session, by September 30, 2000."

The goal of the meeting was to break up into task force discussions
and determine one task for each task force to work on and the
timetable for that task.

Reports were given by the task force chairs:

Robert Frizzell - The DATABASE PURCHASING TASK FORCE is compiling a
database survey to determine current databases held in Arkansas
academic libraries and to determine the 10 most desired databases
from each institution. David Glick is designing the survey with help
from the task force members. Deadline for submitting input is May 30.
Survey results will be compiled in Microsoft Access and be
distributed for review prior to the next ARKLink meeting on June 21
at UALR Law Library.

Peggy Morrison - The RESOURCE SHARING TASK FORCE determined that they
needed to conduct a needs assessment to identify what current
resources libraries would be willing to share and to find out what
resources others have that libraries would like to see shared. The
goal is to have a draft needs assessment distributed to the task
force by mid-May to be ready to discuss further at the June meeting.
In fall a decision would be taken where to start.

Kathy Sanders - The FUNDING TASK FORCE determined that they would be
developing a form to help with prospect research by the June meeting.
Prospect research is the term given to studying prospective funding
organizations, e.g., areas of interest, typical grant amounts, names
of organizations, etc. (10 people attended this task force session.)

The next meeting time was set for Monday, June 21, at 1:30 at UALR Law Library.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 p.m.
